Get Back in Routine
After months of sleeping in and no schedule, it’s time to get the kids back on a routine. A few weeks before the school year starts, set your bedtime and make the kids get up at the normal time they will need to for school. This is also a good time to cut back on the time they spend watching TV, playing video games and other electronics.School Supplies
Look at your local store for your child’s school and grade supply list and you might check with your child’s teacher, sometimes the teachers will have specific items that your child will need. These lists will have everything your child needs for the school year. With all these supplies they will also need a nice backpack to carry all their necessities. Take your child along and get them excited about heading back to school.Clothes
Kids grow so fast and are hard on clothes and shoes, so send them back to school with some new threads. This is a good family outing so your child can pick out their clothes and try on shoes. Also, this allows you to spend a little quality time before school starts.Plan for Success
Make plans for a successful school year. If your child was in school last year, plan to use the studying and homework techniques that worked the year before and see how to improve those that didn’t. If you have a Kindergartner and are not sure what to expect, talk to friends and family and see what worked and didn’t work for them and make your plan.Designate a Study Space
This is a must-have in homes with school-age children. Pick an area in your home that you will use only for homework and studying. That way when your child sits down there, they know it’s time to get to work.Prepare for Sickness
It is inevitable the kids are going to get sick. Don’t get caught off guard with nowhere to take your child while you go to work. If you are unable to stay home with them, having a plan ahead of time will eliminate some stress when that time comes. While you are working on this plan it’s time to think about what your children will do after school until you get off work.Organize
Your children will bring home a lot of things from school. It is a great idea to organize so you don’t have a huge pile of papers and artwork on your kitchen counter. Designate a spot for all these school-related items and eliminate the stress of clutter.Celebrate
Take time to celebrate a new school year! Before school kicks off and a new routine gets started, take the family out and celebrate with one last summer night out.The Barn-B-Que Smokehouse is a great place for the family to come and celebrate.
