7 Tips for Better BBQ at Home

Here at The Barn-B-Que Smokehouse, we serve the best BBQ at Lake of the Ozarks and we would love for all of your BBQ meals to come from our smokers. We know that’s not always possible and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love sitting on the back deck with a cold beverage and some meat on the grill? We love a backyard BBQ as much as the next guy. That’s why in this week’s blog, your Lake of the Ozarks BBQ restaurant is going to give you some tips for better BBQ at home.

1. Learn What Better BBQ Is

To be sure you are serving your family and friends good BBQ, you need to know what the best BBQ tastes like. Get out and visit BBQ contests, festivals and of course the Barn-B-Que, to see how BBQ cooked by professionals and connoisseurs’ tastes. You will be able to become familiar with the tenderness of the meat and the flavor it should have.

2. Buy a Good Smoker

Charcoal and gas grills are ok for burgers and dogs, but if you are after that tender smoky meat, you need a good smoker. Once you have found that perfect smoker, it’s time to get to know it. Every smoker is different and even the most expensive ones will have hot and cold spots. You will need to play with the smoker and find those spots, so you know exactly where to place your meat.

3. Let Meat Reach Room Temperature

Don’t ever throw cold or frozen meat right in to cook. Let meat reach room temperature. By doing so your meat will have the best flavor and be the most tender. Letting it sit out too long increases the risk of bacteria, so pay attention and once the meat it to the right temperature, cook it right away.

4. Keep the Lid Shut

The key to great BBQ is maintaining a consistent temperature. Opening and closing the lid on your grill or smoker causes that temperature to fluctuate. Remember “If you’re looking, you’re not cooking.”

5. Indirect Heat

Setup your grill where the heat source is to one side of the grill, while the meat is cooked on the other side. Using indirect heat allows the meat to cook slowly from the inside. This will keep the meat from drying out and loosing its natural juices.

6. Don’t Rush It

Practice makes perfect! Give your self plenty of time. Preparing better BBQ at home will take practice, preparation and plenty of patience.

7. Experiment

Have some fun trying to achieve better BBQ at home. Find some of your favorite meats and experiment with different styles of cooking and enjoy it.

We sure hope these tips have inspired you to get out and grill some tasty meats. When you are ready for a break and ready for someone to serve you with some great BBQ, head to the best smokehouse in Lake of the Ozarks. At The Barn-B-Que, you are sure to enjoy delicious BBQ with a family-friendly atmosphere. Enjoy dining in the 1850s barn or hang out on the patio and enjoy that BBQ just like at home.
